Vintage 1968 SMITHS W10 Military-issue Gents watch in Full Working Order

  

Genuine Vintage SMITHS W10 British Military-issue watch dated 1968. This is a pre-owned watch in used condition with some signs of age and wear, but still looking great on the wrist today - Please see the Full Item Description and photos for full details. Tested and in full working order. SMITHS is a famous English watchmaker with a long history and with the British military previously having been supplied by some of the biggest names from the Swiss watch industry, it was a refreshing change in the late 1960's to see the "MADE IN ENGLAND" SMITHS W10 commissioned for British Military-issue for the years 1967 to 1970.

On close inspection it is possible to finds some signs of age and wear, most particularly to the rear case back, but the military-issue markings are still perfectly legible. Testament to how well these watches were made is how well this watch still looks at 53 years of age.

It has also been tested and is in full working order, running to an accuracy within 10 seconds per day. The SMITHS manually-wound caliber 60466E is well regarded. It is movement developed by SMITHS from the base caliber 27CS but with a significantly improved Breguet overcoil balance spring and incorporating the hacking seconds for precise time-setting. The movement is protected inside the case with an iron dust cover and the outer screw-down stainless steel case-back.

The case measures 35mm width, excl. Crown, and measures 17mm width between the lugs and has fixed bars, as per military-specification. It is attached to an 18mm khaki-colour nylon NATO-style strap which I think suits this watch very well.
